SEND Events At Castor
Autumn Term: 2nd October, 2023 Time: 3:15 - 4:14pm Topic: Meet and Greet
Introduction to the new SENDCO and my plans for Special Education needs this year at Castor Church of England School.
Spring Term: 11th of March, 2024 Time: 3:45 - 4:45pm Topic: Dyslexia
After looking at the feedback from our last session, we have chosen dyslexia as our second theme. We will be discussing how we support children with dyslexia at our school, as well as what you can do at home. Additionally, I would like to introduce you to our new program at school called Nessy, which can help a range of children. We will then spend the end of the session completing an art piece and eating some snacks, while we have an informal chat. Children are encouraged to attend with their parents.
Summer Term Date: 12th June, 2024 Time:2:30pm Topic: Autism & ADHD
We are proudly inviting any parents/carers into Castor who are interested in learning more from an experienced parent who has navigated the system for special education support and diagnosis' for Autism and ADHD.
James Wand, Author of 'Autism and ADHD - A fathers perspective' will be joining us to tell us more about his families fight for the future of their neurodiverse children. From the early years of parenthood to the present day, their perspectives changed as they took on new roles as parent/carers.
From his book:
"It's a journey that impacts their children, themselves, and the people immediately around them, as they advocate in ways they didn't know were possible. From a challenging diagnosis, battles with the education system and school avoidance, through to struggling with a father's own mental health, we learn how as parents, and as a family, they start to process the past events, accept their different paths in life and begin to find their tribe."
It would be appreciated if you would please let Mrs Baxter-Edwards know (by phone or email) if you would like to attend - just so we have an idea of numbers.
Assess, Plan, Do, Review meetings are held once in the Autumn, Spring and Summer Term, although for special cases this review period might be shorter.
